Spider Vein Treatment

It is estimated that somewhere around half of American women have varicose veins – also commonly known as spider veins. It is a common cosmetic problem, and many women avoid showing their legs because they have spider veins: small blue, red or purple veins that appear on the thighs, calves and ankles.

Pregnancy, hormonal shifts, weight gain, and heredity are some of the factors that contribute to the development of varicose veins. You can even develop these if you have an activity or occupation that requires prolonged sitting or standing.

For most women, the veins may not become obvious until they reach their 40s. Men get spider veins as well, but they are typically concealed by hair growth.

Dr. Tehrani can help reduce your spider veins. The treatment, sclerotherapy or vascular laser is a very effective, safe, and relatively painless method  used for eradicating spider veins.

Sclerotherapy is the name of varicose veins treatment, and is the most effective treatment for vascular damage. The procedure is non-invasive and the results are instant, though individual results may vary. There is minimal discomfort and no recovery time. Any area on the face or body can receive the treatment.

With standard spider vein treatment, sclerosing solution called Asclera is injected into each affected spider vein, causing the vein to collapse and fade from view. One injection for every inch of spider vein is generally expected, but each patient is slightly different. Bright light and magnification may be used to ensure maximum precision while the skin is held taut to apply the solution injection. A cotton ball and compression tape is often applied to each injection site as it is finished.

We also use V-Beam laser to treat spider veins on the  legs. The treatment directs laser energy to the red blood vessels just below the skin that we generally call spider veins. The laser is short bursts of light that is absorbed by the blood vessels. It is a non-invasive procedure and does not harm the skin above the blood vessels, so recovery is fairly fast. Results are generally seen within a couple of weeks.

Some veins may disappear after one treatment while others disappear after a repeat procedure. Therefore, we recommend multiple spider vein treatments usually for two or more sessions for maximum results.
